Training for Life
Hulme Hall Grammar School has agreed to sponsor two defibrillators as part of its commitment to first aid and life-saving in the community.
Since 2013, the independent school in Stockport has been teaching its Years 10 and 11 pupils vital life-saving skills through a First Aid course. This training gives children from Hulme Hall Grammar the vital knowledge of providing emergency treatment. The school has now taken the decision to further commit to emergency first aid in the community by sponsoring two defibrillators in the area.
Said Headmaster, Mr Dean Grierson, “We are thrilled to have been given the opportunity to be involved in the scheme which places defibrillators in public spaces and makes them accessible in an emergency situation. It was an easy decision to get involved with the project especially as first aid is something that, as a school, we are very committed to and it sits comfortably with our caring ethos.”
All members of staff at Hulme Hall are first aid trained and pupils in KS4 are taught everything from resuscitation skills and responding to incidents of choking to putting on a sling and bandages. As well as providing important life skills to the children, the three year certificate also adds to their qualifications.
Mr Grierson continued, “Whilst we hope the defibrillators are not going to be used, their location at Parrs Wood entertainment centre and Tesco Xtra petrol station in Handforth Dean will give people more peace of mind should a situation arise.”
