The King’s School’s Platinum Jubilee Garden Party
The King’s School’s, Macclesfield, Infant & Junior Division’s Platinum Jubilee Garden Party took the biscuit with a very special royal visit from Rudey the corgi.
A festive day of themed events included a right royal fancy dress competition, a garden party and an assembly in which footage of King’s own Royal Visit in 2002, to mark the school’s Quincentenary, was shown.
However, it was an eight-year-old Pembrokeshire Welsh Corgi called Rudey, whose proud owner is King’s Year 5 teacher Emma Yoxall, who was the star attraction as he visited every classroom and even starred in a special “find the dog’ treasure hunt.
Ms Yoxall said: “Rudey is very, very laid back. His favourite hobby is relaxing and being super cool and as he loves the attention from the children, we felt he would be the perfect star guest for our own royal visit.”
Year 6 fancy dress winner, Amelia Grace, 10, said: “The Queen is simply amazing and everyone loves her.” While her fellow winner for his regal King’s crown, Benji Hutchinson, 11, added: “The Queen has spread so much love and kindness not just in our country but across the world and the United Kingdom should be very proud of her.”
Principal of the King’s Infant & Junior Division Rachel Cookson said: “Rudey lived up to his billing as the star guest, was exceptionally polite and well-mannered and will be welcome to come back any time.”
In the senior school King’s pupils enjoyed a red, white and blue themed day, wearing something red alongside their royal blue uniforms. An afternoon tea was well-received by everyone, with Pam the school’s pastry chef, making nearly 1,000 scones alongside hundreds of cupcakes featuring a photo of the Queen. Earlier in the week, pupils watched footage of the Her Majesty’s visit to King’s during her 2002 jubilee and planted two tress as part of the Queen’s Royal Canopy project.
