New Outdoor Learning Zones at Stockport Grammar School
Exciting new facilities are nearing completion at Stockport Grammar Junior School – a new Pre-Reception building for nursery age children, plus new play and learn facilities across all age groups.
The children have enjoyed watching the building team as new outdoor learning zones take shape. The active play zone features an introductory climbing frame and a mini assault course with 15 interchangeable blocks to build confidence, balance, and strength. The sand play area has a large sand-pit box with weighing scales so children can explore different weights and measurements.
The water play area features a water wall to help the children learn about gravity, water flow, and water recycling. A mini performance stage with chalkboards also has integrated den-making posts, so it can be used for Drama and Literacy lessons. The ‘Jackanory’ corner will encourage storytelling by children and adults alike.
Abstract playground floor markings are designed as an open-ended grid which can be adapted to a multitude of teaching disciplines such as Mathematics and Art.
The new woodland and wildflower area will add to the pupils’ experience of nature while there will also be a ‘quiet’ zone with wicker snugs for reading and a ‘social’ zone. The large solid timber adventure trail and the gym zone are sure to be the focus of energetic activity!
With large bi-fold doors, the new Pre-Reception building also links the indoor and outdoor learning environments into one space and has been designed to further enhance SGS’s strong nursery provision.
