Gold Medal-Winning Olympian Inspires Young Athletes
Young athletes at Cheadle Hulme School were inspired to believe in themselves and try new things when they were visited by English slalom canoeist, Etienne Stott MBE.
Visiting Junior and Senior pupils, Etienne spoke of how he got started in the sport through becoming a Scout and what helped him to achieve his goals.
He said: “A few things helped me to win my medal; I learned from everything… even my failings, a big job seems scary at first but when you break it down to little pieces it’s easy to do, and no one can predict the future.”
The pupils also heard about how he overcame challenges; from the disappointment of dislocating both shoulders and missing out on the Rio Olympics.
Following a Q&A, Etienne hosted a canoeing masterclass to help the students refine their techniques.
