Cheadle Hulme School Pupils Praised in ‘Exceptional’ Inspection
Cheadle Hulme School has been rated ‘excellent’ following its inspection carried out by the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate in April, with Reception pupils praised for their ‘exceptional achievement’.
The inspection’s Key Findings, published this week following a three-day visit by the ISI at the end of March, note that both “the quality of pupils’ academic and other achievements” and “the quality of the pupils’ personal development” are excellent.
The report found that Reception children demonstrate “exceptional achievement” and Junior School pupils achieve an “excellent standard across all their areas of learning”. In the Senior School, pupils’ success in public examinations reflect the “high academic standards” of the School and that pupils “develop skills, knowledge and understanding to a high standard across a wide range of subjects.”
“From the youngest child in Reception to the sixth form, pupils display excellent attitudes to learning and try their best at all times, encouraged by a supportive leadership team and staff.”
Pupils’ personal development is also praised: “Pupils develop confidence, resilience and perseverance as they thrive in the culture of challenge which is fostered through the extensive range of opportunities and experiences that are provided for them. They are developing into happy, thoughtful, modest and kind young people who exhibit a quiet confidence in their own abilities and self-worth.”
Echoing the Schools original founding and its visionary desire to educate boys and girls together, Inspectors commented: “Through a fully co-educational experience, gender does not limit [pupils’] thinking or participation in the school curriculum and extensive co-curricular programme.”
In addition to lesson observations, ISI Inspectors interview pupils and staff, attend co-curricular activities and send questionnaires to the School’s parents and pupils to gain honest feedback.
Head, Lucy Pearson said: “I am wholly delighted that the Inspectors found our pupils and the School so impressive. The excellent outcomes of this Inspection are the result of many people’s hard work across and throughout the School and I am so pleased that their work, manifested in the calibre and achievements of our pupils, has been recognised.”
Alongside Educational Quality, the ISI also carried out a Focused Compliance inspection, in which the School was required to meet a set of standards across eight areas. In this, The School met all the required standards, which include the relevant requirements of the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and is therefore fully compliant.

The Independent Schools Inspectorate is the body approved by the Department for Education for the purpose of inspecting schools belonging to the Independent Schools Council (ISC) Associations and reporting on compliance with independent school regulations. ISI inspections are also carried out under arrangements of the ISC Associations for the maintenance and improvement of the quality of their membership.
