Alderley Edge Festival – 2019
For more than a hundred years Alderley Edge Festival has been a delightful event for people in Cheshire. As Maria Rushton, one of the organises of the Festival-2019 said, “There’s an element of competition but this is much more about bringing people together to share their enjoyment of performing.” A lot of local schools embraced an opportunity to join the ‘wonderful culture of music, speech and drama’ and some of the children won top awards during the festival.
Nearly seventy children from Wilmslow Preparatory School took part in this year’s festival, and took home prizes for their outstanding choir and orchestra performances, individual music performances, and speech and drama performances.
Ms Shaw, Wilmslow Prep’s Form 3 teacher and KS1 Speech & Drama co-ordinator commented on the School’s success. She said: “We all thoroughly enjoyed another fabulous week of music, speech and drama at this year’s festival. We are incredibly proud of all the participants who are developing in confidence whilst enhancing life skills through performing in front of a group.”
Another regular participant of the festival is The King’s School, Macclesfield. This year King’s juniors won a quintet of top awards.
The choir and orchestra’s performances were rewarded with cheers from the audience and they were declared the winners of their classes and awarded with a trophy and certificate. King’s Junior Department Music Director Alison Lea said: “The children were simply stunning, singing and playing intricate melodies and complex rhythms and displaying a wonderful sense of balance and ensemble.”
Head teacher of Wilmslow Preparatory School, Mrs Rigby, commented: “Taking part in the festival is a great experience for everyone and provides us all with inspiration. Our thanks and congratulations go to the festival organisers who have, once again, put on an enormously successful event.”
