Swedish Brand for British Summer

It can be hard to choose clothes for children for a British summertime holiday. One minute bright sunshine, the next all rain and wind.

A girl on the beachOur daughter also has quite an eclectic taste in clothes and likes to choose her own outfits, often resulting in some pretty ‘out there’ combinations (which we love and encourage).

We do struggle however to find comfortable, stylish and well-made clothes that don’t cost a fortune, and tend to buy second hand to try and reduce waste. That’s why when we discovered Polarn O. Pyret, a Swedish brand (which automatically makes it stylish) that uses 85% sustainable materials and claims that each item of clothing will last 3 children, we were keen to try it out.

The designs are really funky – think John Lewis meets Frugi with a scandiwegian twist – our favourite being the hoody we got for our daughter which is covered in ice-creams (her favourite too) – we definitely won’t see many other kids in the same print! Another positive – the hood is detachable. Anyway, the proof is in the pudding and since we gave it to our 5 years old, she has worn it on more days than not, most recently on a family holiday to Anglesey (famous for its changeable weather) and it kept her warm against a very strong breeze but being cotton it didn’t leave her over-heating. She also likes wearing it with dresses, or trousers/shorts.

A girl on the playgroundThe trousers we chose are perfect for her – comfortable around the waist, a colourful floral print and lovely cotton material. They are perfectly light and breezy for the sunnier periods, but robust enough when the weather inevitably turns!

Everything is machine washable (essential) and Polarn O. Pyret (or PO.P as they are known) also promotes second hand sales and clothes repairs on their website. 100% of their cotton is organic which is better for the environment.

It was our first time buying from them and definitely won’t be the last.

  • This is a good quality lovely brand that has been available in UK for ages but still not that well known. Comfy but good looking. Not dressing kids as mini adults.
