Challenges from Cheshire

As we all begin to settle into our new ‘lives from home’, we face constant reminders that we must resist the temptation to hibernate away the spring curled up on our couches watching Netflix, but must instead keep our minds and bodies agile. With our houses seemingly crammed full of children of various ages, all needing constant entertainment and stimulation, the pressure is really on to come up with fun ways to keep kids mentally and physically active. Luckily, Cheshire-based Hulme Hall Grammar School is here to help! As part of its move to online education, the school has shared some puzzles and challenges with us.

To really get the grey matter going, why not try the cryptic challenges above and below? Great for linguists, historians, and geographers alike, these addictive puzzles are perfect for older children (and adults!). For any parents who think it’s time to finally prove to their kids that they’re the smart ones – dare you attempt these as a timed competition? We suspect you might not win as easily as you think…

Now to take care of your body! Maybe you’re tuning in to Joe Wicks every morning, but looking for something to give yourself and the kids an afternoon energy boost?

The fun physical challenges shown below can be done by the whole family, and focus on different sporting skills and muscle groups.

Thanks to Hulme Hall Grammar School for giving us some helpful materials to stock up our home-educating cupboards with! And, after such a thorough mental and physical workout, surely a bit of time as couch potatoes is justified…
