Virtuoso Violin Player Returns to Macclesfield for a Concert.
Virtuoso violin player Laura Embrey returns to Macclesfield on February 21 to treat music lovers to an exciting concert featuring Beethoven and Ravel.
One of the most gifted and hard-working performers The King’s School has ever produced, Laura is currently taking a Master of Music Degree at The Royal College in London, having earned a first class honours Bachelor of Music Degree in Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. She is now playing recitals and solos while also freelancing for the nation’s leading orchestras as she looks to cement a concert and orchestral career.
Laura, who is supported by Help Musicians UK, will be accompanied by her musical partner Mackenzie Paget on piano, the duo having previously been finalists in the prestigious Norman George Competition for emerging talent.
The concert in St Michael’s Parish Church in Macclesfield town centre begins at 1.15 pm on Friday 21 February, with cakes and coffee served from 12.45 pm and a collection for East Cheshire Hospice. The concert celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of Beethoven and features his Violin Sonata in C Minor, a magnificent, stormy, brooding piece then contrasted by Ravel’s Violin Sonata in C Major, a turn of the 19th century melodic, ethereal movement with evolving jazz influences. Tickets are £7 and £5 with free entry to children under 12.
As well as being a stunningly brilliant violin player, Laura was a successful academic gaining straight A*s in all her GCSEs and A Levels at King’s and could have chosen Oxford or Cambridge to study Maths rather choosing to focus on her passion for music. She said: “To be successful you have to train hard especially in the run up to a performance and I tend to practise for at least six hours a day increasing my work load as the concert date gets nearer.”
Laura added: “I love playing in St. Michael’s. It not only brings back so many memories of playing in concerts and services for King’s but, most importantly, the space has fantastic acoustics and the audience is always incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic.”
