South Manchester Schools Meeting for a ‘Leadership Lunch’

On Wednesday 25th September 2024, members of the Senior Officer Team from The Manchester Grammar School welcomed the Head Girl Teams from Manchester High School for Girls and Withington Girls’ School for a ‘Leadership Lunch’ at MGS. The concept of service and giving back to the community is a key part of the ethos at all three schools, deeply embedded in their histories.

School Captain Jack from The Manchester Grammar School said: “Whilst indulging in a lovely sandwich buffet in the School’s Archives Room, we began to organise a series inter-school events for the 2024- 2025 academic year. These included potential Hockey, Netball and Rounders tournaments, which will be spread out across the three terms – each school will host one of these events. We also planned three non-sporting competitions: a Christmas karaoke night, a University Challenge-style quiz and a ‘friendly’ debating match. These events will not only enable us to foster an even stronger working relationship between the three schools, but they will also provide us with the opportunity to raise money for charity and to further promote the philanthropic ethos that has always been central to MGS life. The lunch concluded with a short tour of the School’s grounds, and we even managed to find the time to watch a bit of the First XV rugby match! The MGS Senior Officer Team representatives – the School Captain, the Vice-Captains and the Internal Officers – hope to improve the School’s partnerships with MHSG and WGS over the coming months. We look forward to seeing the girls back at MGS very soon!”

Head Girl Arabella from Withington Girls’ School said: “We would like to extend our thanks to the Manchester Grammar School for kindly hosting a Leadership Lunch, where the respective leadership teams met to discuss exciting plans for the year ahead.

“Our Head Girl Team will be looking forward to further collaborative efforts, academically, in the sporting arena, from a charitable perspective and socially. As neighbours, I feel there is much to be gained from further integration at all levels throughout the school. I am hopeful these events will provide a platform to achieve this. Through these initiatives, we aim to strengthen relationships between our schools, foster collaboration, and build a lasting sense of community.”

Head Girl Eva from Manchester High School for Girls said: “In light of the recent Leadership Lunch, we would like to thank the MGS School Captain team for inviting us to their school. It was a very productive lunch and we greatly enjoyed meeting the Withington Head Girl Team.

“The meeting fostered a dynamic exchange of ideas with prospects for future joint events. Everyone was encouraged to suggest their ideas and visions for collaboration and the discussion was lively and promising. We also shared our experiences in being on the head teams at our respective schools and we believe this will be very beneficial in further developing our own leadership styles. Looking ahead, we are excited about the possibilities before us. We are enthusiastic about the potential of joint events, which will enrich our experiences and strengthen the bonds between our schools.

“As we look into the future of this collaboration, there is a shared sense of excitement about its potential to transform our communities. The partnership between our schools stands to deepen connections and pave the way for a vibrant and united community. The journey ahead is filled with opportunities for growth and I and the Head Girl Team at Manchester High feel extremely positive about this cooperation”.
