The Dark Side
Recently, we posted an article on our social media pages about light vs. dark in interiors. This isn’t a new topic in terms of home décor conversation but is still one which divides people it seems. We thought, with the long winter nights upon us, now is a good time to try to encourage people to venture to the dark side.
In a country where we are not blessed with lots of natural light, painting your rooms in dark colours can seem a peculiar choice but we always tell our clients to work with their spaces. If you have a narrow hallway with no windows which feels drab then accept this. Painting it bright white will mean it remains dreary with no natural light to bounce the white around. Opt for dark, jewel-like colours which will both create real impact and cocoon you and your visitors in a way pale colours never can. The trend for charcoal grey continues but also think inky blue, off-black, & forest green.
The Design Board below shows a versatile Design Board with some ideas for any such depressing space. Banish the safe neutrals, paint the walls dark and add contrast and texture with prints, plants & metallics.
In case you still need further persuasion, take a look at these ‘before’ and ‘after’ pics from a brave client who recently transformed her hallway from light to dark… just goes to show, ‘don’t be afraid of the dark!’
