The Most Athletic Scarecrows in Town at Tatton Park!
From international sporting stars to local sporting heroes – February half-term marks the return of the most athletic scarecrows in town at Tatton Park!
Sporting Heroes is this year’s theme for Tatton Park’s renowned Scarecrow Festival in celebration of the 2020 Olympics and the Rugby League World Cup 2021. Tatton Park’s Gardening, Visitor Experience and Farm volunteer teams have put together a family fun scarecrow trail throughout the Gardens and the Farm this February half term.
Strike a pose with scarecrows car racing, playing basketball or swinging a cricket bat. Play alongside scarecrow sports stars and enjoy children’s activities and games inspired by sporting heroes.
Tatton Park has been fortunate to receive a contribution of five fabulous sporting scarecrows from a local Academy, One Community Trust based in Warrington as part of their ongoing work with the Rugby League World Cup 2021. Local schools have come together with Tatton Park’s Education team to create five Sporting Hero Scarecrows of Rugby League players, to celebrate the tournament being hosted in northern towns and cities during October and November 2021.
The scarecrows created by the children themselves are:

James Simpson made by Foxwood School
Adam Hills made by Gorse Covert Primary School
Jodie Cunningham made by Oakwood Avenue Primary School
Gareth Widdop made by Woolston Community Primary School
The schools would like to give thanks to the local sports stars; Jodie Cunningham and James Simpson for donating some of their kits to the project, to Adam Hills for donating the boots he wore to beat the Wire Flyer at Thursday’s match last night and finally, to Warrington Wolves and Saints RLFC for also donating kit for the scarecrows.

They are all looking forward to visiting Tatton Park’s Scarecrow festival during half term to see their scarecrows in situ in the gardens. We are so grateful to the Rugby League clubs, players, World Cup ambassadors and staff at Tatton Park, for their support with this project.”
You’ll find other sports stars in amongst the Orchards and Walled Kitchen Gardens and the return of some familiar straw faces, scattered throughout 50 acres of Tatton Park’s beautiful Gardens. This year you’ll find even more sporting scarecrows down on The Farm amongst the paddocks, stables and farmyard. You’ll find scarecrows skiing, kayaking, horse jumping and capturing famous sporting moments. Be sure to look out for all your favourite sporting heroes and – of course – their animals.
