Anderton Centre – Lancashire’s mini Lake District

With Covid restrictions easing, the weather improving and school breaks approaching – first half term and then Easter – what are your plans for entertaining your offspring? And more importantly, how are you going to offset days and months of social distancing, mask wearing, test taking? How are you going to get their (and yours as parents) lives back to normal?

Anderton Centre in Chorley is spread across 4 acres of woodland and has exclusive use of Lower Rivington Reservoir, the largest expanse of water between the Midlands and the Lake District; it is often referred to as Lancashire’s mini Lake District.

It is important that we offset the negativity of recent events surrounding Covid-19. Children have been restricted from their normal social movements and displaced from their usual learning routines. They are bursting with energy and our Centre offers a range of land and water-based outdoor activities in a safe and exciting environment. Research supports the benefit of green space and water for wellbeing and we can provide both in abundance.

Anderton definitely has ways of keeping children active, amused and entertained with archery, low ropes, canoeing, tree climbing, den building, and puzzle solving (they may even throw in a bug hunt for good measure!).

Talking about Easter holidays and Anderton’s Adventure Club, David explains: “Every group is unique so activities will be determined based on adventurers’ preferences and the weather conditions on the day. Adventure Club is designed for children aged 8-15 years old, with Mini Adventure Club for those aged 6-7 with age-appropriate activities to get their muscles working and their minds engaged. Just because it’s the holidays doesn’t mean we’re stopping the learning altogether!
