A Weekend of Stories and Light
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight torchlight promenade performance in West Park. Saturday 23 November.
The LITle hub – storytelling at Macclesfield library &
St Michael’s church. Saturday 23 & Sunday 24 November.
LIT is a weekend of stories and light in Macclesfield, the first edition of which will be held between Friday 22 and Sunday 24 November 2019.
LIT is a chance to tell, write, hear and share stories, to shine a light on creativity and unleash people’s imagination. LIT wants to inspire the children of Macclesfield to find their inner storyteller – and to enjoy stories in all their different guises.
The weekend will feature a centrepiece event for families: Sir Gawain and the Green Knight on Saturday 23d November. Gather from 4.30pm at West Park café for creative activities.
Performance times 5pm, 6pm & 7pm.
FREE. For all ages. No need to book. Bring a torch!
Bring a torch and weave a route through West Park discovering performances, installations and projections inspired by Cheshire’s very own 14th century poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, alongside music and soundscapes created in collaboration with pupils from local schools, Broken Cross Primary and Parkroyal Community School. There’ll be screen printing and badge-making, plus plenty of refreshments to enjoy in the cosy café.
Join Sir Gawain, the youngest of the Knights of the Round Table, in his winter quest around West Park.
Produced by: 154 Collective
In collaboration with local artists: Jacki Clark and Ralph McGaul

The LITle hub is for children of all ages to take time to discover and be inspired by stories from around the world.
Come and enjoy the magic of reading under the LIT gazebo in Macclesfield library during the week from Monday 18 November. Then, on the morning of Saturday 23 November, the library is home to mesmerising storytelling sessions from internationally acclaimed Jan Blake and Peter Chand. The sessions will be at 10am and 11am. Children can also join artist Marc Jackson who’ll be helping them to create your very comic mini-stories from 12noon.
On Treacle Sunday, the LITle hub moves over to St Michael’s church in Market Place, where Jan and Peter will be back to take you on a journey through tales of ‘Love & Light’ from around the world with storytelling at 12noon and 1pm. What happened when the creator created the sun, but forgot to create the moon? Whose love shines the brightest and how did the sun & moon get into the sky?
We also welcome the unique Nick Hennessey, internationally acclaimed storyteller and musician who intertwines song and the spoken word with his beautiful, evocative harp playing. Nick will be performing at 2pm and again at 3pm.
St Michael’s will also host our own LITle studio with Marc Jackson, encouraging you to create your own characters and stories in comic book form (noon-4pm).
Spend Treacle Sunday afternoon at the LITle hub at St Michael’s.
The LITle hub is free and welcomes children and adults of all ages.
